MATERIALS & PROJECT OPTIONS

A Shower Is a Waterproofing Project in Disguise

Most shower problems aren't about the tile you can see — they're about the waterproofing and plumbing you can't. Here's a plain-English look at the options that matter, so you can buy with confidence.

Tub-to-Shower Conversion

Trade an unused tub for a low-threshold walk-in shower — the fastest way to modernize a bathroom and make it safer.

Walk-In & Curbless Showers

Low- or zero-threshold entries that are easier to step into, easier to clean, and ready for grab bars and seating.

Acrylic & Solid-Surface Walls

Durable, grout-free wall systems that resist mold and wipe clean — great for fast, low-maintenance builds.

Tile & Custom Builds

Fully custom tile showers over a properly waterproofed pan and walls — the premium, design-forward option.

Frameless & Custom Glass

Measured and installed as part of the build so the glass, waterproofing, and plumbing all line up.

Waterproofing & Plumbing

The part you never see and the part that matters most — done to Florida code by a licensed plumbing contractor, never covered up.

⚠ The Contractor Tricks We Refuse to Play

If you're collecting bids, watch for these. They're common — and they're exactly why so many shower jobs leak, fail inspection, or never get finished.

  • Skipping permits. “We don't need a permit for that” usually means no inspection — and no record the work was done right.
  • Working unlicensed. A “handyman” doing licensed plumbing or structural work is illegal in Florida and leaves you holding the liability.
  • No license, no insurance. If they're not licensed and insured, an injury or a flood on your job can land on you.
  • Lowball, then load. A cheap number up front, then a pile of “change orders” once the wall is open.
  • No written contract or scope. If it isn't in writing, it isn't a promise.
  • Subcontractor finger-pointing. The plumber blames the tile guy, the tile guy blames the GC, and nobody fixes the leak.

We Hold Real Licenses — and We'll Show You

Showers In Hours is a DBA of Proactive Construction & Design LLC. We carry both the building and plumbing licenses in-house, pull permits, and build to Florida code on every job — no handoffs, no finger-pointing.
